Excursion to  Peter Murrell Reserve,  7 July 2007

Penrhyn Pond.

We spotted a great variety of birds among the white gums, Eucalyptus viminalis.

We found these three animals under a single piece of bark:

Jumping spider Plexippus valipus (Salticidae),
6mm body length.

Moth, 10mm long.

Millipede Tasmaniosoma sp, 20mm long.

Female flowers of Allocasuarina sp.,
a little rain bedraggled.

Styphelia adscendens.

Naturalists checking the S. adscendens specimen.

Lunch break in a mossy clearing near an Allocasuarina with red male flowering tips. Close-up below.

'Shield spider' or 'badge huntsman', Neosparassus punctatus (Heteropodidae).

22mm body length.

All eyes were watching the camera!

A glimpse of the distinctive 'shield' under its abdomen.

A suspended net of web funnelling into a spider-hole.
But all it has caught is raindrops!

Corasoides sp., a Trampoline spider.

A waiting harvestman.
