These photos of a fine specimen of Corymbia maculata, closely related to Eucalypts, demonstrate the aptness of its common name - Spotted gum.

This Pisonia brunoniana  is from New Zealand where it is known as Parapara or Birdcatcher tree. The fruits, 30mm long, have 5 very sticky ribs, which catch insects, as we could see. And yes, it seems they really do catch small birds too!
